In today’s busy world, people like to do things which do not consume their own brain’s energy, they just follow the pathway of others. PhD is one of the examples of this “Mob-Mentality”, where people join it without thinking as well as analyzing themselves.
I am here to tell you about the things you need to know before enrolling in the “Big PhD Course”. Yes, I am calling it “A Big Course” because it’s the highest degree in the world. According to the most recent OECD report, less than 2% of the world’s population gets into this. So, before joining it you must have some clarity in your mind.
Step 1: Analyze your own strength and figure out whether it is of your interest or not or you are going to join it just for the sake of degree (credibility) and fellowship.
Step 2: Don’t take too much advice from others. Do some research on your own.
Step 3: Plan the PhD during your post graduation and start working on that. Don’t wait to finish it first.
Step 4: You should have some lab experience (it’s not mandatory, just to know your interest, whether it is working for you or not).
Step 5: If you don’t have experience, then join a short-term project, to have some clarity in your mind.
Step 6: If it is for you, then do more research in depth. What is the criteria to join the PhD? What is your area of interest? Which ‘Institute and Research Supervisor’ fits in your area of interest?
Finally, by analyzing all of these things, you may have gotten some clarity, and with that your PhD will be less stressful.
